The Rice Shield
Honor, Influence and Wisdom
The Rice shield is the primary graphic component within our identity system. The shield draws from historic roots and features the Athenian owl, which stands for honor, influence and wisdom. The current shield has been updated to meet today’s standards for print and web.
The shield, combined with the primary wordmark, creates the official Rice logo.
Flat Shield
The primary shield is the flat version. Its simplicity and clean lines make it the most versatile for print, web, screen printing, embroidery or other reproduction techniques.

Gradient Mesh Shield
The dimensional gradient mesh shield is a larger file to manage and is most applicable to print or web productions.

Rice Wordmarks
The Spirit of Rice
The wordmarks are designed to do more than just allow people to read and recognize an organization. They represent the character of an organization through their typographic choices and in how they are applied.
The primary wordmark is a unique typographic signature that displays the Rice name. It was developed from a modified version of the previous primary wordmark, which used the typeface Trajan. Do not alter or attempt to recreate in any other font.

University Lockups
The primary wordmark is a unique typographic signature that displays the Rice name. It was developed from a modified version of a previous primary wordmark, which used the typeface Trajan. Do not alter or attempt to recreate it.
When possible, the preferred way to refer to the university is simply Rice.

School Lockup
The school lockups were created to include the vast array of different sizes and variations needed by individual schools. The system was designed to include both formal and informal versions, as well as any semiformal variations.
